David Hasselhoff is driving Trabant in Budapest

David Hasselhoff is driving Trabant in 1997. This video is shorter version of aired TV segment. He made his own experience driving Trabant (the best car ever made) in front of the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus in Budapest!

He pointed towards the light blue Trabant and asked ... "this car"? It is really funny how he barely could fit inside. I believe that he did not know how to back up. You really need to know what you are doing if you want to put this awesome vehicle in reverse.

While his star rose, fell and rose again in the US, Hasselhoff's popularity remained a little longer in Europe during the end of the 80s. Hasselhoff had two number-one hits in the German pop charts in 1989 ("Looking for Freedom" and "Crazy for You"), the first of which very much resonated with the fall of the Berlin Wall at that time.

New Trabant Video - Franfkurt 2009 Auto Show

Video show new Trabant on Euromaxx TV. Interesting video about Trabant history as well as interview with designer of electric version prototype Nils Poschwatta who gave up his job at Volkswagen to work on new Trabi.

The almost 20 years after the fall of the Berlin wall (1989), the most common car in the former East Germany could be poised for a come back. The Trabant know as Trabi was smelly, noisy and made of plastic (duroplast) .... But in the country where you had to wait about 12 years to get one, it was the object of the special desire.

Electric version prototype of New Electric Trabi was displayed in Frankfurt in 2009.

Trabant frame is from steel and roof, bootlid, fenders, doors and some other parts are from Duroplast (strengthened plastic). This design in theory do not provide much crash protection. But in some crash tests it scored better then some modern small hatchbacks. Trabant was the first car with a body made of recycled material.
